Next week, we will launch a Kickstarter campaign to support the next phase of the Company D podcast.

The campaign goes live on Tuesday, March 10, and runs through April 8.

Our goal is to raise funds to support the research and production of Season Two, which will continue exploring the lives of the men who served in Company D of the Third Maine Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War.

Season One introduced listeners to ten of these soldiers and the families and communities that shaped their lives. The response from listeners has been incredibly encouraging, and it confirmed something we believed from the start:

The story of a single Civil War company contains countless human stories worth preserving. Season Two will continue that work. Through diaries, letters, pension records, and historical archives, we are uncovering the lives of these men—farmers, laborers, clerks, and young soldiers from towns across Maine—whose experiences reveal the human side of the Civil War.

Why Early Support Matters

Kickstarter campaigns depend heavily on early momentum. Projects that receive strong support in the first day or two are much more likely to gain visibility and reach a wider audience. If you are interested in supporting the project, one of the best things you can do right now is follow the campaign before it launches.

You can preview the Kickstarter page here:

Clicking “Notify me on launch” will allow Kickstarter to send you a reminder when the campaign goes live on March 10.

Looking Ahead

Season Two of Company D will feature ten new episodes, each telling the story of another soldier from the regiment and the world he lived in. These are real stories drawn from historical records: stories of courage, hardship, resilience, and sometimes mystery. Each one adds another piece to the larger story of the Civil War and the men who fought it.

We hope you’ll join us when the Kickstarter campaign launches next week.

With your support, we can continue to uncover and preserve the lives of the soldiers of Company D.
