Season Two of Company D is officially underway, and we’re asking for your help to make it possible.

This spring, we’re launching 10 new episodes of our narrative Civil War podcast, each built from firsthand letters, diaries, pension files, and archival research. These are real stories of ordinary men caught in extraordinary moments of American history.

To help cover production and research costs, we’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign with a $1,500 goal.

Your support helps fund:

  • Podcast distribution
  • Website hosting
  • Access to research databases
  • National Archives document fees
  • A microphone upgrade

Even small pledges make a meaningful difference.

Why Company D Exists

Company D began with my great-great-grandfather, Charles F. Snell, who enlisted in the Third Maine Infantry at age 18. His Civil War diary — passed down through my family — became the foundation for this project.

Charles fought in major battles including Bull Run, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, and Wilderness. He was wounded, hospitalized, captured, and imprisoned at Andersonville and Florence. He returned home at 22 malnourished and on crutches, never fully recovering.

His story made something clear: countless lives like his are fading into obscurity, buried in handwritten diaries and archival records few people ever see.

So I created Company D to preserve and share them.

Proof of Concept: Season One

Season One launched in September 2025 and delivered 10 episodes. Since then, thousands have downloaded the show, and we’ve built a growing community of listeners who care deeply about history, genealogy, and storytelling.

Each episode is accompanied by detailed show notes outlining our sources, along with photos, maps, and reproductions of historic documents.

Season Two continues that mission with 10 more deeply researched stories coming this spring.

If you care about preserving real voices from America’s past, we’d be grateful for your support.

By backing Company D, you’re helping keep these stories alive.

Thank you.
