We Share the Same Mission: Preserving and Sharing Maine History

Company D is a narrative history podcast that tells the nearly forgotten stories of the Third Maine Infantry Regiment. Our goal is to preserve the stories of the everyday Maine soldiers who fought in the American Civil War, one of the state’s most heroic yet under-appreciated infantry regiments.

Each episode features an in-depth, historically accurate portrait of an individual soldier who was a member of Company D, a company made up of men from Sagadahoc, Kennebec, Lincoln, Cumberland, Knox, York, and Androscoggin counties.

The goal of Company D is threefold:

  1. To uncover these nearly forgotten stories
  2. To share these stories with a wide audience across many channels
  3. To preserve these stories for future generations

We want to partner with public libraries and historical societies across Maine to foster a love of history, educate new audiences about Maine’s considerable contributions to the American Civil War, and preserve the lives and achievements of the men and families of the Third Maine Infantry Regiment.

Below you’ll find easy-to-download resources you can share with your colleagues and with patrons and members interested in history, especially Maine and Civil War history.
