A Teenager’s Diary Sparks a Podcast
Company D was inspired by the Civil War diary of Host George F. Snell III‘s great-great-grandfather, passed down through the generations. Charles F. Snell volunteered as a private in Company D of the Third Maine at age 18 while visiting his brother in Bath, Maine. Charles would be promoted to corporal and fight in nearly every major battle with the Third Maine before being captured and imprisoned at the Battle of the Wilderness.
Charles’s words and remembrances are the heart of Company D, an effort to preserve the forgotten voices of these forgotten men and families and to catalog the trials, struggles, and changes wrought by the Civil War on the average American.
Ordinary People. Extraordinary Stories.
Produced, written, and hosted by George F. Snell III, Charles’s great-great-grandson, Company D takes listeners into the lives of the men who fought with the Third Maine. Each episode explores their battles, hardships, and humanity—stories too often left out of history books.
A production of Dark Party Productions, the podcast is co-produced, edited, and sound-engineered by Jay Brewer. The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, and most podcast app platforms. You can find Company D on your favorite app by clicking the button below.
