Season Two of Company D is officially funded.

Thanks to the support of listeners and backers, the next chapter of this narrative history podcast is moving forward.

Company D, the narrative history podcast about the soldiers who served with Company D of the Third Maine Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War, has successfully raised more than $1,500 for its second season.

The podcast held a five-week-long Kickstarter campaign from March 10 through April 7 with a goal of raising $1,500 to fund Season Two. The campaign raised more than $1,700 from dozens of listeners and supporters, surpassing its goal and fully funding Season Two.

These funds will be used for:

  • Podcast distribution
  • Website hosting
  • Access to research databases
  • National Archives document fees
  • A microphone upgrade

Support for Season Two (and Season Three) is ongoing:

Backers of the campaign are recorded on the Company D 2026 Roll of Honor, a lasting record of those who made this work possible.

Season Two Ready to Go

Season Two of Company D will feature ten new episodes, each telling the story of another soldier from the regiment and the world he lived in. These are real stories drawn from historical records: stories of courage, hardship, resilience, and mystery. Each one adds another piece to the larger story of the American Civil War and the men who fought it.

Season Two will also feature a new brand appearance, including a new logo. We will announce the launch date and episode schedule later in May.

A Podcast Rooted in Personal History

Company D began with my great-great-grandfather, Charles F. Snell, who enlisted in the Third Maine Infantry at age 18. His Civil War diary — passed down through my family — became the foundation for this project.

Charles fought in major battles, including Bull Run, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, and Wilderness. He was wounded, hospitalized, captured, and imprisoned at Andersonville and Florence. He returned home at 22 malnourished and on crutches, never fully recovering.

His story made one thing clear: countless lives like his are fading into obscurity, buried in handwritten diaries and archival records that few people ever see.

So I created Company D to preserve and share the stories of Charles and the men he served with. Season One launched on September 17, 2025, with ten true stories.

If you care about preserving real voices from America’s past or just want to listen to fascinating stories of real people and families, then Company D is the podcast for you. The show is available on all major podcasting platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube, and many more.
